What is Mediation?
Mediation is an informal, confidential, and structured process designed to help people resolve disputes without the emotional and financial strain of prolonged litigation.
As the mediator, I am not a judge deciding who is right or wrong, nor do I take sides. My role is to guide conversations, help parties truly hear and understand one another, manage conflict constructively, and assist in finding practical solutions that work for everyone involved.
Often, people are not struggling because there are no solutions - they are struggling because communication has broken down.
Mediation creates a safe and respectful space where difficult conversations can take place more calmly, productively, and with far less hostility than traditional court proceedings.
Mediation can assist in matters involving:
• Divorce and separation
• Parenting plans and co-parenting disputes
• Family-related conflict
• Maintenance and financial disputes
• Civil and commercial disputes
• Workplace and interpersonal conflict
The process is generally faster, more cost-effective, and far less adversarial than litigation, while still allowing parties to remain in control of the outcome.

Where are you based?
I am based in Durbanville, Cape Town. In-person mediation sessions are preferred, as they often allow for more effective communication and engagement between parties. However, online mediation sessions can also be arranged where necessary or more practical.
I am willing to travel for mediations outside the Durbanville area, subject to availability and an additional travel fee.
Can mediation be done online?
Yes. While I generally prefer in-person sessions, online mediations can be facilitated via video conferencing platforms when circumstances, distance, or practicality require it.

Why Choose Mediation?
Conflict is difficult enough without adding unnecessary emotional and financial strain to the process.
Mediation offers parties an opportunity to resolve disputes in a more respectful, practical, and constructive manner - without immediately resorting to lengthy and adversarial court proceedings.
Unlike litigation, mediation focuses on communication, problem-solving, and finding workable solutions that serve the long-term interests of everyone involved
Many people choose mediation because it offers:
• A more cost-effective alternative to
litigation
• Faster resolution of disputes
• A confidential and private process
• Less emotional strain on families and
children
• Improved communication between parties
• Greater control over the outcome
• A more respectful and less adversarial
environment
• The opportunity to preserve important
relationships, especially in co-parenting
and family matters
• Practical solutions tailored to the specific
needs of the parties involved
Mediation is particularly valuable where children are involved, as it helps parents shift the focus away from conflict and towards cooperation, communication, and the best interests of the child.
It also allows parties to be heard in a structured and professionally facilitated environment, where the goal is not to “win” against one another, but to find a way forward that is workable, sustainable, and fair.
Court may determine a legal outcome. Mediation helps people build a workable future.
What To Expect
Mediation should not feel intimidating. The process is designed to be structured, practical, and supportive, so that parties know what to expect at each stage.

This session is used to explain how mediation works, answer initial questions, and allow the parties to decide whether mediation — and my approach — is the right fit for them.
2. Schedule the mediation
If the parties decide to proceed, the mediation session can be scheduled through the
Book Now section of this website.
3. Attend the mediation session
Mediation may take place in person or online, depending on what is most practical for the parties. During the session, I facilitate the discussion, assist with communication, and guide the parties towards identifying workable solutions.
4. Drafting of agreements
Where agreement is reached, the terms may be reduced to writing in the form of a settlement agreement, parenting plan, or other relevant written agreement.
5. Referral to attorneys or court, where required
Where necessary, parties may be referred to their attorneys or the appropriate court to obtain legal advice, finalise documents, or make an agreement an order of court.
The purpose of the process is simple: to create a safe, respectful, and structured space where parties can move from uncertainty and conflict towards clarity and resolution.
Who Is Mediation Suitable For?
Mediation is suitable for individuals, families, and businesses who wish to resolve disputes in a more constructive, respectful, and solution-focused manner.
Mediation may be particularly beneficial for:
• Couples wanting to navigate divorce or
separation amicably
• Parents struggling with communication,
co-parenting, or parenting arrangements
• Families wishing to avoid lengthy and
emotionally draining litigation
• Businesses or professionals seeking practical
and commercially sensible solutions
• Parties wanting a private and confidential
process
• Individuals looking for a calmer and less
adversarial approach to dispute resolution
Mediation is particularly effective where parties are willing to engage in good faith, even where communication has broken down.
One of the greatest strengths of mediation is that it creates space for people to move away from positions of conflict and towards conversations that are solution-driven, practical, and future-focused.
